Africa Express IN CONCERT AT FESTIVAL CRUÏLLA 2025!

A unique and unrepeatable show

Globally acclaimed music phenomenon Africa Express is coming to Festival Cruïlla this summer for a global celebration of unity through music. This boundary-breaking music collective has, for over two decades, united artists across continents and genres in radically open creative collaborations in which anything can happen.

With the idea of bringing together artists from different cultures, genres, and generations to create unique concerts, this initiative has become a worldwide musical phenomenon. This summer, Africa Express returns with the first ever performance of brand new music composed in the jungles of Mexico last year, when an extraordinary group of musicians, singers and DJs from around the world came together to write, rehearse, perform.

This one-of-a-kind music event at Festival Cruïlla is shaped by an exciting global line-up of pioneering artists from across Mexico and Africa, the U.S. and U.K. – including: Baba Sissoko, Bootie Brown, Damon Albarn, Django Django, Eme MalaFe, Joan As Police Woman, Jupiter & Okwess, La Bruja de Texcoco, Luisa Almaguer, M.anifest, Mare Advertencia, Mexican Institute of Sound, Moonchild Sanelly, Otim Alpha and Poté. Together on stage for a very special, completely original, mind-blowing show called Africa Express presents… Bahidorá that we will be able to experience on Friday, July 11th, at the Festival Cruïlla 2025, one of the only two shows in Europe!

Founded in 2006 with a trip to Mali connecting local stars Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté and Amadou & Mariam with artists including co-founder Damon Albarn, Martha Wainwright and Fatboy Slim, each live show is unique, filled with spontaneous moments of magic, collaboration and discovery. Following it’s first major concert in Glastonbury in 2007, Africa Express has traveled the world, making history with its shows from Lagos and London, to Liverpool and Johannesburg; from the UK tour aboard an old train, with collaborations that included figures like Paul McCartney and Baaba Maal, to unique performances like the five-hour final concert at King’s Cross and acclaimed albums such as ‘Africa Express Presents… Maison des Jeunes’ (2013) and ‘Africa Express Presents… Terry Riley’s In C Mali‘ (2014). In 2016, artists and musicians from across Syria were brought together by Africa Express for a European tour and subsequent album Africa Express Presents: The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians, alongside guests including Rachid Taha, Paul Weller, Seckou Keita and Damon Albarn. More recent releases include the album Africa Express presents… MOLO and EP EGOLI, recorded in Johannesburg in just one week and released to acclaim in 2019.

Now the project returns to bring together artists from around the world to create a unique collaboration that we will have the opportunity to see at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, at the Festival Cruïlla 2025, becoming the lucky ones who experience their unique and unrepeatable concerts once in a lifetime!
